ABOUT TRENCH SYMPHONY

Trench Symphony is a heritage project, funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund and led by Edgelands Arts and Charlie Wells Music. Delivered during 2018 and 2019, the project explores WW1 music and song, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the war to end all wars and looks at music as propaganda and tool for resilience and remembrance with adults and young people from across Yorkshire. This website holds recordings of original music written to commemorate the Great War using poetry and verbatim testimony, alongside new recordings, by young people, of trench songs sung by young soldiers in the front line, and information about how music was seen and used by people from all backgrounds and in all situations during World War One.
